Member Information

New members are always welcome. You don't need to be an engineer, or have any special skills, or be building a locomotive. We welcome anyone with an interest in: Model engineering in general Building a model Railways in general - or signalling, or railway operation, or railway history Steam power - whether stationary engines, or traction engines, or marine engines, or locomotives Model boats or aircraft or agricultural machinery - you name it, we have members that are interested! There are modest joining and annual fees, and members are expected to attend when rostered to assist with the public running day activities (if that is possible for you). Rostered duties include acting as a guard on our trains & site preparation before public days. Once you have more experience, you may like to undertake other interesting duties such as a Signaller, Station Master or Controller's assistant.

Quite a few members come to the GVR regularly on Wednesdays, to undertake maintenance and site improvement jobs. This is by no means obligatory, but can be very satisfying if you are in a position to attend on a Wednesday! You don't need to be a skilled tradesman.
